Boden des Feindes, in hostico (Ggstz. in pacato): auf G. u. II) als Basis od. Grundlage eines Gebäudesetc.: fundamentum od. Plur. fundamenta. – den G. legen, fundamenta ponere, iacĕre: den G. zu etw. legen, fundamenta alcis rei iacĕre, ponere (eig. u. bildl.); initia alcis rei ponere. prima initia alcis rei inchoare od. ponere (bildl.): den G. zu etw. graben, ausgraben (aufgraben), fundamenta alci rei fodere; fundamenta alcis rei aperire. – von G. aus, a fundamentis (eig., z.B. domum inchoare: u. alqd diruere od. proruere od. disicere); funditus (eig. u. bildl., z.B. destruere templum: u. domum [v. Zwietracht]; u. amicitias [v. Lehren]: u. delere rem publicam: u. perire [von Städten]); ab stirpe (bildl., gleichs. v. der Wurzel aus, z.B. interire [v. einer Stadt]); naturā (bildl., v. III) als Entstehungsgrund, a) erster Anfang einer Sache: principium. initium. – fons (gleichs. Quelle, d.i. Ursprung). – parens. mater (gleichs. Urheber, Urheberin). – causa (die Ursache, die etwas bewirkt); verb. causa et semen (z.B. zum Kriege, belli). – ratio (der Grund als Folge). – es liegt einer Sache etw. zugrunde, alqd subest alci rei (es dient gleichs. als Grundlage); alqd habet alqd (es trägt etw. das u. das an sich als Ursache, z.B. profectio non voluntatem habuit turpem, seiner Abreise lag eine keineswegs schimpfliche Absicht zugrunde): seinen G. in etwas haben, oriri, nasci, gigni ex alqa re (aus etw. entstehen); proficisci ab alqa re (von etw. ausgehen); manare ex alqa re (aus etw. gleichs. wie aus einer Quelle herfließen); contineri alqā re (durch etwas wesentlich bedingt sein); consistere in alqa re (auf etw. beruhen): die Sache hat einen doppelten G., eius rei duplex causa est: seine Angaben scheinen G. zu haben, haud vana afferre videtur. – b) Beweggrund: causa (zu etw., alcis rei). – ratio (Vernunftgrund). – ganz artige Gründe, ratiunculae. – einen G. anführen, angeben, beibringen, causam od. rationem afferre, auch bl, afferre (s. »anführen no. I« die Beispp.): ich habe wichtige Gründe zu etwas, non sine gravi causa facio alqd; graves causae me impellunt, ut faciam alqd: das hat seine guten Gründe, suas ista causas habent. – nicht ohne (guten) Grund, non sine causa: aus guten Gründen, cum causa; iustis de causis (aus rechtmäßigen G): aus dringenden Grün. den, pellentibus causis: aus dem G., weil etc., propterea, quod etc.: ohne triftigen G., nullā probabili causā: ohne bestimmten, tatsächlichen G., sine certa re: ohne allen vernünftigen [1175] G., nullā ratione: ohne allen G., temere (aufs Geratewohl, ohne Absicht etc.); frustra (umsonst, z.B. alqd timere): ich sage nichts ohne hinreichenden G., nihil temere dico: mit G. hoffen, recte sperare. – der G. zu etwas sein, causam esse alcis rei: der G. od. ein G. sein, warum etc., causam esse, cur etc. – es ist kein G. vorhanden, ich habe keinen G., mit folg. »zu« u. Infin. od. m. folg. »warum« od. »weshalb« etc., non est (mihi) causa, quam ob rem od. cur etc.: non est, nihil est, quod od. cur; non habeo, nihil habeo, quod od. cur etc., z.B. du hast keinen G., dich zu beunruhigen, nihil est quod te moveat. – ich habe G., zu etc., est quod, z.B. ich habe G., mich zu schämen, est quod me pudeat: ich habe mehr G., dir Glück zu wünschen, als dich zu bitten, magis est, quod tibi gratuler, quam quod te rogem: er hat mehr G., sich zu freuen, als sich zu betrüben, plus habet quod gaudeat, quam quod doleat. – Auch wird »Grund« mit einem Pronomen oder Adjektiv im Latein. bl. durch das Neutrum des Pronomens oder Adjektivs ausgedrückt, z.B. gar manche Gründe fallen mir ein (mehr als ein G. fällt mir ein), warum etc., mihi multa occurrunt, cur etc. – od. der Lateiner setzt das, was den Grund abgibt, für den Grund, z.B. der G. der Verzögerung ihrer sofortigen Berennung (der G., warum ste nicht alsbald berannt wurden) war der, daß etc., mora, cur non extemplo oppugnarentur, ea fuit, quod etc.: in der Beschuldigung selbst liegt kein G. zum Verdachte, in crimine ipso nulla suspicio est. – c) Beweisgrund (vgl. »Beweis no. II, b«): ratio (als Vernunftgrund), – argumentum (Beweis nach Tatsachen). – res (Tatsache selbst, faktischer Grund. gew. im Plur., Ggstz. verba). – mit Gründen streiten, argumentis od. rebus agere: keinen G. gelten lassen, auf keinen G. hören, rationem non pati.
